Imagine if it was a normal thing in our society to communicate by playing guitar licks between everything you said. Everyone had a guitar. That would be wild and probably sound cool as well.

Ha…… I know for for some reason that seems life changing because never learned one in there life how pale an a orange 🍊 or and for some people this won’t be surprising to them because they already know how to pale an orange 🍊 because they know it logic and there parents or parent or guardians taught them how pale an orange 🍊

Don't forget he paved the way for all kinds of Allman brothers double stop and pedal steel style riffs and he was doing Mountain Jam on they're second album (Anthem of the Sun) He layed down the law and others ran with it.

John Mayer never talks just to talk. He always has something insightful to say. He really is a massive fan of music and curious. That has led him to be one of the best musicians alive today. His work with Dead & Co is so impressive.

100% I can relate to this with songwriting. One technique that I found helpful was a tip from Gary Numan. You create the music, create a vocal track with just an instrument (piano) and then match the vocal/instrument track in beats. Then you write lyrics to match those beats in sequence. It is a lot easier to have the beat and music first and then have lyrics match it. Lyrics written independently is almost impossible to make it match. I've heard some songs where you can tell the lyrics were written first and the song just seems wordy - like the words run into each other. The other tip is to come up with a list of ideas for songs. Then when you are writing/matching lyrics for a song you can pull from that idea list. Lyric writing matching music is extremely mathematical. It is like matching socks - but I see it more like a puzzle. You are scrolling in your head for different words to match the beat and eventually, you get the right combination. It is like a combination lock you are cracking.

it is funny, Fender needs artists in contemporary music...I feel they lost someone who needed the top 10 handle with care treatment of all people, maybe even top 5!!! since some of the srtist who have signature models aren't even around anymore...Fender needs artist that proudly play their stratocasters, the model that is the best of all the lines they make in the factory. But sure, i know how Fender works, if it ain't broken don't fix it, keep the American factory cheap and let the mexicans work for nothing...And indeed if a strat works it works, but man, the pickguards, the paint the wood they can all be made better and differently. You should not be tied into a collection of colors and call it innovation...

John Mayer you did update the strat at all, what you have is a strat with prs headstock and yes i owed one. The clapton strat is a much bigger evolution of the strat as is the Gilmore and beck strats than what john mayers prs strat is.

I used my thumbs and my picky would be flying... for my entire playing career. I have osteoarthritis and have since a young age. Then, about 5 years ago, I injured my wrist and arm. Late, I realized that it was from the way I was playing. Thing was: I couldn't play any other way! ...or I thought, at first. It's been awhile but now, I'm better than I was. I had to relearn some basics, which was a bummer [read as: caused some depression] but now... I can do more, with less motion and less pain. I had given up for awhile and, for me, I'm the "if I can't play guitar...what's the 🤬 point of living" type of person. I wasn't going to just quit. I wish I had learned this earlier but, I'm just stoked to be able to play and to be actually making musical progress again. That's pretty cool when you're 40 [which isn't old, but when you've had arthritis in your fingers and the rest of your bones for 20years at that point...it's not sprightly either] and still get to have the excitement of having so much more that I get to learn! I mean that. I've played trumpet for years (competitively for 8 years) and my performance background is jazz and concert music. Jazz being more my thing....because I LOVE the blues! so, if you are like me (my condolences 😂) and you enjoy almost every kind of music there is, there is an endless amount of things to learn and that is a blessing! Currently: I'm trying to learn keyboard/piano, so I can make backing tracks with an acoustic, keyboard and a drum machine ....just for fun. I'm not talented enough to feel morally right about selling any of my music yet. 😂 I learned how to make digital beats and beats that others can rap to. That is a blast since you can just go a step further and make a electronic type song from a beat. I want to learn set but... I don't have room for that, so a midi drum machine with pads and keyboard are what I'm learning to use. I can play bass..... but my *dream* (it likely won't happen, as it's been decades and still hasn't...but it's fun to dream 😂) is ridiculously simple and relatively inexpensive: I want an acoustic bass so I can record some of my favorite songs, but play all the parts and all acoustic. It's taken me this long to save up enough to get an electric bass and an electric guitar that I actually wanted (I have teens, so getting them an acoustic and an electric to play became a priority. Now, instruments aren't in the budget, but that's cool).... but, stay at home dads don't make much $$, it turns out, even teaching through a public charter school. 😂 .....but one day.....I will have the $400 it takes and life will be even better than I likely deserve ♠︎ 🤘 It's also nice to have something to dream about. I may never own one...but I play it in my mind all the time. 🤘 You're never too old to learn something new. I used to think otherwise and I was wrong. It's also cool to have a dream, even if you know you likely won't get it. 🤷‍♂️ ♠︎ [read as: I don't know that I deserve basic needs more than any other human does...so, everyday is a luxury that is likely better than 'I deserve', all things considered. I'm saying "I'm grateful to be alive at all"...not "I don't deserve anything 😢" 😂 I'm clarifying because I say that a lot and it's a common problem]

Silver sky suck and I actually had the idea of a 3 by 3 headstock on a that since I was a kid but you know what now that I see it I'm glad I never acted on that lol. The silver sky belongs over there with really ugly beak headstock guitars lol. If the silver sky is the future of the Strat then no wonder they been the same for 60 70 years. It's so good I mean where you going to go with it, not there lol.

I love John but the analogy of the Strat being a thing of the 50s/60s isn't accurate. Leo Fender was honestly a savant genius and created something that never needed to be 'perfected' because it was always perfect the way it was. That's why majority of guitar players dream, is to afford a genuine vintage Strat/Tele.

It is so great to hear and see Mr Mayer mature as a man. I have been critical of his interviews in the past as self-absorbed and often lewd … So, I owe it to him to recognise his propensity for “growing up” quite well. Welcome to being human, John. We all - if we are blessed - live long enough to know people who will not believe that we Ever said something like that 😂! (I knew his skills as a guitarist would top out at Sky Plus; nice to see that he turned out to be a fairly humble man👍). Cheers/Slainte, Mr MayerExtraordinaire. God bless and keep sharing your thoughts and skills with us … plz. 🎸👨🏼‍⚕️🎸. 🫶✌️♾️.
